In 2010, I opened my home to two Chinese intellectuals—both postdocs in physics, working at Stanford University at that time. Shortly after meeting them I started working with Chinese characters. We found nicknames for each other to use in the paintings —“Breeze” 风 for Binghai, “Red” 红 for Haijun. These two scholars inspired me to expand the vocabulary of forms I use in my work.
